(Bio-)Informatic staff scientist (PostDoc)

We invite applications for a (Bio-)Informatic staff scientist (PostDoc) position with a strong background or interest in bioinformatics, data visualization, big data analytics, machine learning and their application in biomedical research. The successful candidate will become a key member of a strong team of scientists that focused on the development and application of bioinformatic approaches to solve pressing issues in mass spectrometry-based reearch. In particular, we aim to strengthen our ongoing research project ProteomicsDB or Prosit by this position. In light of this background, the most important aspects of the job description are:

  • Data analysis and interpretation of proteomic data (ProteomicsDB)
  • Integration and analysis of multi-omics data (ProteomicsDB)
  • Data science and machine learning (Prosit)
  • Service engineering and infrastructure support for life science data (Prosit)

The main work duties of a PostDoc are in research, assisting in the supervision of PhD candidates, writing papers and grants, but they also include teaching (max. 5 SWS; credit hours or semester periods per week). The position is not attached to a specific grant or research topic and thus can be used to pursue own - but relevant - research topics.

Requirements: Candidates should hold a PhD degree in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics or a related discipline. Extensive theoretical knowledge of and practical skills in statistical analysis, data mining, data integration, machine learning, programming and database design are essential. Additional desirable skills include a sound understanding of proteomic or related technologies as well as basic biological and (bio) chemical concepts. We are looking for a self-motivated and broadly interested individual with high potential and a strong sense of responsibility. Flexibility and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment on multiple scientific and infrastructure projects are essential. Good inter-cultural and interpersonal communication skills as well as presenting complex data to scientists and clinicians in English are also important.
