How to control saturation

Researchers at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and the Finnish research institute Turku PET Center have discovered a new mechanism for controlling satiety. The scientists found that the hormone secretin induces satiety by activating brown adipose tissue.

"This study highlights the functional importance of human brown fat in controlling energy balance, as it influences both food intake and energy expenditure," said Martin Klingenspor, professor of molecular nutritional medicine at the Else Kröner Fresenius Center for Nutritional Medicine at TUM.

Brown adipose tissue (BAT) and its metabolic function is the main topic in this new handbook. The book provides an update on the latest research. BAT dissipates energy and might offer a target for novel therapies to address obesity, a health condition that has reached pandemic dimensions.
